Eastside Alumni: Where Are They Now?
Bryan Roque: Eastside Class of 2020, University of Southern California Class of 2024
While earning his BS in mechanical engineering, Bryan also enjoyed attending USC sporting events and joined the archery club. In the summer of 2022, he worked with his Eastside career coach to secure a manufacturing engineering internship at Silk Road Medical, a medical device company focusing on stroke prevention. He made such a positive impression that he was invited back for the summer of 2023, and then, upon his graduation, he accepted a fulltime job with Silk Road, launching his career as a manufacturing engineer.
Seema Lal: Eastside Class of 2020, University of California, Santa Cruz Class of 2024
This spring, Seema graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BS in Cognitive Science. The summer after her sophomore year, she interned with Year Up, which provides job training programs, as a recruitment and admissions intern, and the summer after her junior year, with Twist Bioscience in Human Resources, which deepened her interest in recruiting. Invited to continue her internship with Twist through her senior year, she was then offered a full-time position as a talent acquisition coordinator, which she was excited to begin this summer.
Cris Mansilla: Eastside Class of 2019, University of California, Santa Barbara Class of 2023
After graduating from Eastside, Cris moved to Santa Barbara to begin his college journey at UCSB, where he pursued a major in Philosophy and a minor in Anthropology. Through Eastside’s internship network, he was able to gain experience in a variety of industries through three summer internships, working as a dietary intern with Stanford Health Care, as a research intern for the Institute for the Future, and as a commercial operations intern for Silk Road Medical. These internships helped Cris recognize his passion for a people-centered job where he can use his social skills and empathetic nature, ideally in a mission-driven organization. He has found a great fit as a case manager at Compass Family Services in San Francisco, an organization that provides support for homeless and at-risk families.
David Chivers: Eastside Class of 2020, University of California, Merced Class of 2024
David graduated this past spring with a BS in Management and Business Economics and a BA in Psychology from UC Merced. On campus he was involved with the African Student Union, Black Student Union, and Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity. With the help of his career coach, he secured internships as a finance and corporate development intern at Quicken, and as a supervision and credit operations intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. After a successful summer, he was offered a full-time position at the Federal Reserve Bank where he is now an associate regulatory data analyst.
Akasha Fobbs: Eastside Class of 2020, University of Southern California Class of 2024
Akasha earned her bachelor of science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Southern California, where she worked in research through USC’s Research Gateway Scholar Program studying the impact of California wildfire smoke on solar photovoltaics. The summer after her junior year she worked as an energy engineering intern at Arup, a sustainable development consultancy firm, and she returned for a second summer after her graduation this past spring. This fall she will begin a master’s program in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on energy and atmosphere at Stanford University.
